This thesis focuses on the research, design and fabrication of a Humbucker-type electric guitar
pickup. The main objective was to research approaches for optimizing the conversion of
mechanical string vibrations into electrical signals, as well as to examine the fabrication
processes and materials employed in pickup construction. A model of the pickup was built in
the Comsol Multiphysics simulation environment, with the string oscillating above it. The
influence of material and geometrical pickup parameters on the magnetic flux density in the
cores was invesigated through parametric simulation analysis. Based on the acquired
knowledge and simulation results, four pickup prototypes were fabricated together with
electrical circuit for electric guitar applications. In addition to providing the basic functions of
volume control and signal frequency filtering, the circuit also enables grounding of one of the
pickup’s two coils, making the instrument suitable for different musical genres. The research
and characterization of the fabricated pickups verified the simulation model. Lastly, the
effectiveness of electromagnetic interference suppression was evaluated.
