In my thesis, I synthesized titanium dioxide (TiO$_2$) and coated it with platinum for use in the photocatalytic degradation of selected compounds (ibuprofen, diclofenac, sulfamethoxazole, and phenytoin) as well as the dye Plasmocorinth B. Both titanium dioxide and platinum were thermally treated in a Bosio chamber furnace at 600 °C. The results showed that the addition of platinum significantly enhances the efficiency of the catalyst, both in the degradation of individual compounds as well as their mixtures. The most successful degradation was observed for ibuprofen and diclofenac, whereas sulfamethoxazole and phenytoin proved to be more persistent. We concluded that titanium dioxide with platinum coating is a promising material for advanced wastewater treatment.
