The purpose of the study was to determine the incidence of orthorexia nervosa (ON) among young adults in Slovenia and the connection between ON and psychological factors such as perfectionism, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and physical activity addiction. The study involved 107 participants aged 18 to 30 years, who completed an online questionnaire consisting of the validated scales ORTO-15, IPAQ, Y-BOCS and MPS. The average ORTO-15 score was 36.78 points, and 19 participants (20.3%) reached the threshold value for orthorexia (≥40 points). Among the diagnosed individuals, 57.9% were students and 42.1% were employed, while none of them were students or unemployed. Also, 94.7% of people with orthorexia were women. A statistically significant association was confirmed with orthorexia and the presence of perfectionism, while the association with OCD could not be confirmed (p = 0.197). Most individuals with orthorexia (76.5%) were physically active, but the association between ON and activity was not statistically significant (p = 0.480). Also, 78.9% of individuals with ON were not included in any form of treatment, and none of them were aware of their ON diagnosis. The results therefore confirm that ON is present among young adults, especially women, and that it is often associated with psychological factors, especially perfectionism and OCD, with a simultaneous low level of awareness and involvement in the treatment process.
