Abstract

Title:Design of an experimental setup for observation of interaction between two active nucleation sites during boiling
Abstract:
To study the interaction of two active nucleation sites during nucleate boiling, an experimental setup was developed based on the use of optical tweezers, an inverted microscope and a high-speed camera. Water, FC-72 and Thermasolv were used as the working fluids. The interaction was observed in a droplet at ambient temperature and in a heating chamber, where the liquid's saturation state could be reached. The effects of optical tweezers’ parameters on the size and frequency of vapor bubbles were analyzed for subcooled and saturated boiling conditions. The laser source of optical tweezers heated the gold deposit in one, two, or eight regions. The highest nucleation frequency was achieved with water.
