The thesis sketches the life and work of the violinist and conductor Leo Funtek. Born in Ljubljana in 1885, he was as a child prodigy, student of Hans Gerstner, one of the most important musical figures in Ljubljana at that time. After studies in Leipzig he went to Helsinki where he lived and worked most of his life. He was active first and foremost as a conductor, first of symphonic and later operatic repertoire, but also as a teacher and music critic.
