In my thesis, I deal with lesbianism in Suzana Tratnik’s novel Tretji svet (Third World) and Patricia Highsmith’s novel Carol. Before my analysis of the two novels, I also provide a theoretical background to the topic, that is, I deal with homosexuality in general, continuing with a more thorough analysis of lesbianism, and later highlighting the position of homosexuals in the society. When it comes to the analysis of the two novels, I pay special attention to the point of each story and the topic of lesbianism. Later on, I compare the novels with regard to the identity of homosexual women and to the way lesbianism is portrayed. At the end, I combine the two novels by highlighting the importance of the problems they deal with from today’s perspective.
