This thesis examines the degree of adherence to pronunciation norms in the most popular sung lyrics in Slovene. Eight songs were selected: four from the era of evergreen music in the 1960s and 1970s, and four from the early 21st century, specifically from the period between 2010 and the present. The theoretical part outlines the sociolinguistic stratification of the Slovene language, its standardization, and codification processes. Additionally, key musical and phonetic concepts relevant to the analysis of sung texts are defined. The empirical part of the thesis involves an auditory analysis, based on which phonetic transcriptions were produced for selected segments of the chosen songs. The lyrics were then analyzed on the levels of lexical choice, pronunciation, and word stress. The durations of stressed and unstressed vowels were also measured. An auditory analysis and a computer-assisted acoustic phonetic analysis using Praat were conducted. The results obtained in the empirical section are compared, and key findings based on the results are presented.
