Abstract
Magistrsko delo raziskuje ključna načela poučevanja angleškega jezika za odrasle začetnike in preverja, v kolikšni meri se ta načela upoštevajo v praksi v slovenskih jezikovnih šolah. Teoretični del temelji na sodobnih pristopih k poučevanju angleščine kot tujega jezika, teorijah usvajanja jezika (zlasti Krashnovem modelu), ter na načelih andragogike, ki jih je opredelil Knowles. Poudarjeno je samousmerjeno učenje, visoka motivacija učencev in potreba po prilagodljivosti učiteljev. Predstavljeni so konkretni primeri pristopov in metod, ki so se izkazali za učinkovite pri poučevanju odraslih začetnikov. Poseben poudarek je namenjen nalogam in aktivnostim, ki spodbujajo tekočnost in uspešno komunikacijo. Empirični del vsebuje analizo vprašalnika, ki je bil posredovan učiteljem, ki poučujejo odrasle učence angleščine. Rezultati potrjujejo, da so odrasli zelo motivirani učenci, ki v učni proces prinašajo mnoge prednosti, vendar se ravno tako srečujejo s številnimi izzivi, ki lahko ovirajo njihov napredek. Učitelji se radi poslužujejo interaktivnih in komunikacijskih aktivnosti ter pouk čim bolj prilagajajo potrebam svojih učencev. Ugotovitve potrjujejo pomen prilagodljivega pristopa k poučevanju odraslih.

Title:The effective principles of teaching English courses for adult beginners
Abstract:
The master’s thesis aims to explore the key principles of teaching English to adult beginners and examine how much these principles are applied in practice in Slovenia. The theoretical part is based on modern approaches to foreign language teaching, language acquisition theories (especially Krashen’s model), and Knowles’s andragogy principles. The emphasis is placed on the importance of self-directed learning, learner motivation, and the adaptability of teachers. In the empirical part, I analyzed the results of an online questionnaire conducted among English teachers for adult learners. The results show that adult learners are, in fact, highly motivated and bring valuable strengths to the classroom, but often face various challenges that can negatively impact their progress. Teachers most commonly opt for interactive and communicative methods and adapt their teaching to the needs of their learners as much as possible. The findings confirm the importance of a flexible approach to teaching adults.
