Abstract
Učenci se v današnjem času nemalokrat izražajo s pomočjo digitalnih medijev, zato povezovanje književnosti in filmskega ustvarjanja oz. snemanja kratkih filmov omogoča ustvarjalen in drugačen pristop k obravnavi domačega branja.

Title:
Film as a method of working with text
Abstract:
In the second triad of primary school students are often introduced to Bevk's novelette Little Luka and His Starling. Teachers usually use the novelette as part of required reading, which in turn ensures that students form a deeper connection with the chosen literary text and allows them to express themselves in various ways. Nowadays, students mostly express their feelings and communicate through social media, which is why finding a link between required reading and filmmaking or creating short-form content offers teachers a new and creative approach to teaching literature. In the first part of the master’s thesis we defined a communication-based approach to teaching literature and ICT-based teaching methods. We defined the meaning of film and how to use film as a method of working with text. We connected the latter to required reading and introduced the life and literary work of France Bevk as well as explained the origin of his novelette. The empirical part is divided into two segments. In the first part, we examined whether creating short films can be an appropriate didactic tool for studying the required reading Little Luka and His Starling. We examined how students demonstrate their knowledge before and after the introduction of film-related activities. We also observed whether the filmmaking changed the students’ attitude towards Bevk’s novelette. The analysis of lessons indicates that using film as a method of working with text is an effective didactic method. Furthermore, the results of the analysis show that students deepened their connection with the chosen text and improved their knowledge after the implementation of film-based activities. In the second part of the master’s thesis, we conducted ten interviews with primary school teachers. We examined whether the teachers are willing to use film as a method of working with text in literary lessons. The interviewees also answered questions regarding how competent they perceive themselves to be in applying film-related activities in class. The content analysis showed that primary school teachers are open to using the selected method, however they do not yet consider themselves competent enough to independently use film as a method of working with text. The results of the qualitative research shed light on the current state of teachers’ willingness to use filmmaking when teaching literature. Through the implementation of lesson plans we would like to encourage primary school teachers to incorporate filmmaking into their literary lessons.
