Abstract

Title:Effect of sand granulation on the performance of low-voltage high-performance fuses
Abstract:
The thesis addresses the impact of sand granulation on the performance of low-voltage (NH) fuses, which are used to protect low-voltage electrical installations. The purpose of the study is to examine how sand granulation affects their ability to quickly and effectively extinguish the electric arc that occurs during an overload or short circuit. As part of the research, various types of fuses with different characteristics, filled with sand of various granulations, were tested. The methods used include the production of fuses, their filling with sand and precise measurement and testing using standardized procedures. The results show that sand granulation affects the effectiveness of arc extinguishing, with finer granulation enabling faster extinguishing and preventing the destructive effects of high voltage and current. In sample fuses filled with sand of higher granulation, negative effects were observed, such as damage to the fuse base, reignition of the arc, and sustained electric arcs. The results of the thesis emphasize that the choice of the appropriate sand granulation is crucial for optimizing the performance of NH fuses.
