For more than 15 years, Slovenia has been a holder of the Family-Friendly Company certificate, which is a confirmation that the recipient has introduced family-friendly measures into its business operations and has successfully implemented them, thereby demonstrating social responsibility towards its employees. Socially responsible employers recognise work-life balance as one of the biggest challenges, especially for working parents, but also for others who have other family commitments. Human resource management is therefore becoming an increasingly important aspect of the activities of companies that are and want to remain reputable, that want to attract and retain the best staff and that want to work in companies in industries with a high turnover of employees. Gender (in)equality is also a very important element of the work-life balance debate, both in private (family) life and in the world of work. In order to obtain the theoretical framework necessary to understand the topic, I analysed relevant professional sources in the field, and empirical research in the form of interviews was conducted to compare the implementation of measures to facilitate work-life balance in two companies and to identify the key reasons why companies choose to become certified. One of the main factors is price of the certificate, while the other two are the lack of awareness of the certificate among employees and business partners, and concerns about the potentially high administrative burden that the certificate imposes on the holder.
