Abstract

Title:Void, acquired by erasure
Abstract:
In my BA thesis, I study void as a result of a subtractive painting intervention. The erasure of elements leads to a specific type of void, which makes one focus not on what was erased, but on an echo or the void itself. By naturalistically mirroring figures and creating elements on the original medium of a hidden background, new space is created. The spectator experiences a critical moment as well when they realize that they were misled, that the visual image does not entirely correspond to the first impression and that something is hidden from them. Using my own childhood photographs and videos makes the moment of recognizing the deceit even stronger, as the original feeling of entering intimacy is invalidated when the spectator recognizes that the intimate space does not exist due to the erasure of the author’s images as a child. The absence is manifested in a void, which becomes the main actor.
