Every home has a collection of recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation and are part of family tradition. These recipes are not just a list of ingredients and cooking procedures, but also precious books full of stories, memories and cultural heritage. To prevent the loss of recipes, it is right to collect them in a collection that will allow the recipes to be accessible and useful for future generations.
In our master's thesis, we planned and designed a website in which we included old handwritten recipes. By designing the website, we wanted to prevent the loss of valuable recipes for dishes that we may no longer know in a few years. In addition to the ingredients and process, we also presented each recipe visually. In addition to these, we also added practical tips and tricks to the website. In the theoretical part, we explored the development of Slovenian cuisine and the first Slovenian cookbooks. We have reviewed information about handwriting. We took a closer look at the concepts of website, user experience and its difference from the user interface. We looked at the difference between designing a website for a client and designing a website for companies. In order for the website to be meaningful, functional and at the same time aesthetically designed, we focused on the basics and principles of visual design in the theoretical part. We looked at ways to photograph food. Finally, we explained the Wordpress program and what responsive design and SEO optimization mean.
In the experimental part, we analyzed the characteristics of similar Slovenian websites and conducted a survey to gain insight into the habits and desires of users. Based on the collected data, we designed an integrated graphic image and prepared design guidelines that served as the basis for the final image of the website. For easier understanding, we identified a representative of the target group of users.
Before designing, we planned the information architecture and determined the structure of the content on the website. Based on this, we then designed a wireframe model, into which we later included previously determined design elements. The content of the prototype was then implemented online. The final result of the master's thesis is the Culinary Heritage website.
