The problem of the flying arrow : comparing Hui Shi and Zeno of Elea using the method of sublation

This chapter showcases a particular approach to transcultural philosophical comparison by introducing a novel theoretical model, the ‘method of sublation’. I aim to shed light on its practical application through a comparative analysis of two famous and distinct perspectives regarding the kinetic state of a flying arrow: those of Zeno of Elea, a pre- Socratic philosopher from ancient Greece, and of Hui Shi, a prominent scholar of the ancient Chinese School of Names, renowned for their contributions to Chinese logic.
