The purpose of this master's thesis was to present a new form of dance groupe workout called Salsation®, which is gaining increasing popularity in Slovenia. This group workout is performed to music, primarily based on Latin American rhythms, and combines elements of functional training, musicality and lyrical expression. We highlighted the key characteristics that differentiate Salsation® from other similar programs, such as nonverbal teaching and leading (»organic teaching«), emotional connection to music and the adaptation of choreography according based on participants' abilities and the group atmosphere. We explored the possibilities of integrating Salsation workout into the school curriculum, provided reasons for its inclusion and presented concrete examples of how Salsation® workout can be implemented in schools. To enhance understanding, we recorded practical demonstrations and included videos as an essential part of the thesis presentation.
In addition to reviewing both local and internationl literature, we interviewed the founder Alejandro Angulo, who provided valuable insights into the origins of Salsation®, his vision for the program and its future goals. Through this thesis, we aimed to contribute to the development of the Salsation® program in Slovenia by creating one of the first detailed descriptions of this workout in Slovene. Furthermore, we sought to motivate physical education teachers to incorporate Salsation® into their lessons and provide them with additional support through recorded materials.
According to sources and expert opinions, Salsation® has numerous positive effects and is suitable for all age groups and fitness levels. The workout combines dance experience with functional training, promoting both physical health and mental well-being. Moreover, Salsation® workout promotes self-expression through movement, and social interaction, which is particularly valuable in a school environment. We believe that Salsation® could become an important part of school physical education, increasing students' motivation for physical activity, improving their health, and reducing the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle.
