Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of how the socioeconomic background of caregiving dyads influences family carers’ decisions and motivations for caring, as well as their ability to organise and navigate the provision of care for older adults in Slovenia. The lack of adequate home care services, combined with regional differences in its accessibility and affordability, significantly affects the organisation and provision of care, particularly in caregiving dyads with low socioeconomic status. Due to their limited financial resources, these dyads are unable to bridge the formal care gap with private caregivers, exposing them to a higher risk of care poverty and highlighting the intersection between income and care poverty. The chapter also highlights the interdependence of unmet needs within caregiving dyads, illustrating how the unmet needs of older adults have consequences for their family caregivers, leading to unmet needs for the caregivers as well.
