Abstract
Pomorska industrija ima ključno vlogo v svetovni trgovini. Pomorski promet in problem odpadkov v morju predstavljata enega največjih izzivov človeštva današnjega časa. Politične napetosti, neusklajeni ukrepi in finančne ovire zavirajo sodelovanje. V tretjem delu so podrobneje opisani ladijski odpadki in načini upravljanja z njimi. Četrti del obravnava izzive, povezane z odsluženimi ladjami, ter procese njihove reciklaže. V petem delu opisujem pomembnejše mednarodne konvencije, ki so prispevale k urejanju sodobnega pomorskega prometa in učinkovitejšemu upravljanju z ladijskimi odpadki.

Title:MARITIME TRANSPORT AND THE PROBLEM OF WASTE IN THE SEA
Abstract:
The maritime industry plays a key role in global trade. Maritime transport and the problem of marine waste represent the greatest challenge facing humanity today. In my master's thesis, I focus on the issue of ship waste and analyze in detail the applicable legislation, including the MARPOL Annex V convention, which regulates waste management and its appropriate disposal. I identify potential gaps and challenges in the implementation of legislation and its relationship to the concept of green shipping. The master's thesis is divided into seven thematic sections. In the introductory part, I present the topic of the thesis, its objectives, and purpose. The second part is dedicated to maritime transport, various types of ships and cargo, and the issue of marine waste. The third part provides a detailed description of ship-generated waste and the methods of handling it. The fourth part discusses the challenges related to end-of-life ships and their recycling processes. The fifth part presents the most important international conventions that have contributed to the regulation of modern maritime transport and more effective management of ship-generated waste. The sixth part focuses on green maritime transport and highlights its advantages. The seventh and final part presents the key concepts derived from the entire thesis. In my master's thesis, I found that solving the problem of marine litter is possible, but it requires joint efforts of all stakeholders - governments, industry and civilsociety. Only through cooperation and orientations towards a sustainable future for the maritime industry will we be able to effectively reduce marine pollution. Political tensions, uncoordinated measures and financial obstacles hinder cooperation
