Introduction: Due to the large number of jobs, activities and circumstances, there is no single definition of workplace violence. One definition defines workplace violence as any physical attack, threat or verbal abuse that occurs in the workplace or as any threat, verbal abuse or physical attach that occurs in the workplace. Purpose: Purpose of the thesis is to determine the reasons for violence, assess the consequences of violence find a solution and increase awareness of the issue of violence among health workers. Methods: We used a descriptive research method using a literature review. Literature was searched in the databases CINAHL, PubMed-Medline, Wiley, Google Scholar, Cobiss and other online archives of Obzornik zdravstvene nege in Zdravnibki vestnik. We used key words in
Slovenian and English language: »violence«, »psychic violence«, »physical violence«, »healthcare«, »nursing«. We used Boolean logical operators (AND, OR, NOT). Results: Violence among nursing employees occurs and the most common form being is psychological violence. It's done by superiors as well as employees at the same work level.
Workplace violence also affects life outside of work, psychological well-being of employees, reduces productivity, causes burnout and worsens relations between employees.
Discussion and conclusion: Violence among nursing staff is a serious problem that can negatively affect the quality of patient care and the work environment. A systematic and
comprehensive approach is needed to manage violence between employees. Preventing workplace violence includes educating employees on how to recognize and manage conflict,
creating an open communication culture and implementing a clear workplace violence policy. We found out that violence against healthcare workers is a complex problem that
requires constant adaptation and attention to prevent it. It is important that leadership promotes zero tolerance for violence and provided supportive processes for reporting
violence incidents. Only by coordinating efforts at the employee and organizational levels we can create a work environment that will positively impact employees as well as the quality of health care.
