The main objective of this master's thesis is to research which linguistic characteristics of texts and headlines do appear in the articles of two very important French media, Libération and Le Figaro. This thesis analyses the articles published on websites of those two mentioned newspapers and which describes the international conflict in Europe, the war in Ukraine. This research is compounded of three parts. The theoretical part presents a summary of theories, related to linguistics, rhetorics and stylistics on which is based our analysis. In addition, the aim of this thesis is also to define the role of media, internet and journalistic texts. The theoretical part is followed by the analysis. Our analysis aims to analyse 20 articles published by Libération and 20 by Le Figaro. This chapter consists of two major parts. Firstly, we have executed an analysis of the headlines and subheadings appeared in the articles followed by an analysis of texts. Our analysis was carried out at the thematic, grammatical and stylistic level. After the analysis this thesis continuous to compare the results of our research. Although that the two newspaper medias report about the same political incident, they use different stylistic and rhetorical instruments to describe the event. It is interesting to note the variety of themes that the journalist describes and pay attention to – this observation is related to the political orientation of the newspaper. The corpus of articles intends to use a variety of linguistic instruments with intention to invite the reader’s attention for the story. Of particular interest among these are stylistically marked vocabulary, rhetorical elements, and specific syntactic structures that shape the final message.
