Abstract

Title:
Urban interventions in Radovljica : The urban design of connecting the daily life of the community
Abstract:
“Everyday” urbanism emphasizes that urban space emerges through the daily practices of the community. In preserving historic towns like Radovljica, it is essential to balance heritage conservation with modern approaches that encourage resident participation. The research question focuses on how urban interventions in Radovljica contribute to community connectivity, the improvement of urban life, and the preservation of the town’s historic character. The key challenge is to align cultural heritage with the creation of functional spaces that promote community use and sustainable mobility. The project is based on an analysis of “everyday urbanism” and “do-it-yourself” approaches. The field analysis includes mapping key areas, identifying challenges, and an in-depth study of the functionality of Linhart Square. The proposed conceptual solutions include the transformation of public spaces for everyday activities and the organization of cultural and artistic interventions that strengthen local identity and spatial dynamics. These interventions connect heritage with modern life, enhance community bonds, and create an inclusive urban space. The project demonstrates that “everyday” urbanism can link the historical identity of a town with contemporary solutions. Active community involvement in urban space design contributes to a more functional, welcoming, and sustainable urban environment. This approach not only improves the space but also strengthens local identity and encourages active participation in shaping the urban landscape.
