Introduction: Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease in which high blood glucose levels persist. It can cause many complications, the most serious of which are long-term complications such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, chronic kidney disease, foot ulcers, and retinal damage. Heart failure is a heart disease that occurs when the heart is no longer able to pump enough blood to supply the entire organism. Almost all heart diseases can lead to heart failure, but by far the most common causes are high blood pressure and coronary heart disease. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to evaluate the importance, content and methods of health education and learning of a patient who has type 2 diabetes and heart failure and is treated with modern heart failure therapy, i.e. sodium-glucose transporter system 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors. Work methods: A thematic review of professional and scientific, Slovenian and foreign literature was made. A descriptive method of work is used. Literature was identified in data systems (COBISS) and databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE) with the help of pre-defined search terms in Slovenian and English. Results: SGLT-2 inhibitors are an excellent example of a drug that is used independently for both diseases, as well as when the two diseases occur together. Many studies have shown the extreme importance of health education of the patient with the aim of improving his medical condition and the possibility of self-management of the disease. Research also emphasizes that for successful health education, first of all, adequate staff must be provided to carry out the education and follow the health guidelines. Discussion and conclusion: Both heart failure and type 2 diabetes are increasingly present in the population, and therefore the discovery and research of the effects of new drugs on both disease states is extremely important to ensure the quality of life of the patient, while we must not forget about education and training the patient. How and in what manner this is to be carried out has not yet been determined, as in practice we often encounter many obstacles.
