In the 2022/2023 school year, an intensive care group with the official name »Vzgojna skupina za otroke z avtističnimi motnjami in otroke s čustveno vedenjskimi motnjami« started operating for the first time at the Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Ljubljana. It is one of the eleven educational groups of the student dormitory, it accommodates four adolescents who, due to their specifics, have not been able to function in regular educational groups in the past. My work is intended for them and the professionals who participate in the intensive group.
In the theoretical part of the thesis, I first define the period of adolescence, especially adolescence for persons with special needs. Next, I describe the disorders of the housed adolescents, i.e. emotional-behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders, Tourette's syndrome, and intellectual disability. I also describe two key documents for guiding children with special needs – an order and the individualized program. Then I focus on the group, dynamics within the latter, its structure, and other elements. I also address student dormitories, educational programs in student dormitories - both regular ones and those with special needs. Finally, I describe intensive groups, both in Slovenia and abroad.
In the empirical part of the assignment, through the analysis of semi-structured interviews and the analysis of individualized programs, I answer the research questions regarding the establishment of an intensive group, delve deeper into the specifics of the group structure and the content of the work, and obtain the opinion of experts on the group's performance.
