Abstract

Title:The archaeological image of the confluence of the Sava and Krka rivers
Abstract:
The master's thesis The archaeological image of the confluence of the Sava and Krka rivers provides a comprehensive analysis of settlement patterns and landscape changes in the area of the Sava and Krka rivers and the Gorjanci hinterland, spanning from the Paleolithic to the end of the Middle Ages. Using LiDAR scanning, field surveys, paleoecological data analysis, and a critical evaluation of existing archaeological research, the study examines the impact of social dynamics, climate changes, watercourses, and geographical features on the development of the landscape and settlement in this region. The analysis of the northeastern part of the Gorjanci using LiDAR technology revealed several previously unknown potential archaeological sites. The thesis also includes an attempt at synthesizing the obtained data, which is contextualized within a broader historical and environmental framework. The emphasis is placed on interpreting the role of the Brežice Gate as a significant transportation and strategic corridor during the studied period.
