Abstract
Strontium has been regarded as an influential osteoblastic characteristic and potentially significantly affects implant osseointegration. However, the exact mechanism of action is unclear. This systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy of Sr-doped titanium implants in enhancing osseointegration with bone. Research articles were retrieved through electronic databases (Google Scholar, Pub-Med, EMBASE, ELSEVIER, SAGE, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials) from January 2014 to December 2023. The significant findings were the Bone-to-implant contact (BIC) and New Bone formation (BF). One thousand one hundred twenty-three studies have been found of which eight were selected based on inclusion criteria. All of the in-vivo studies disclosed the effectiveness of Sr-coated Titanium implants in enhancing osseointegration, which was evaluated by analyzing BIC and BF of implants placed in animals. According to the selected studies, the outcomes showed a productive influence of Sr release on the osseointegration and bone formation of an implant with the bone. Further research should be carried out to find the exact mechanism.
