Abstract

Title:Development and integration of system for detecting location and orientation of production modules in a smart factory
Abstract:
Digital twins and implementation of modular production lines are two of the key guidelines of Industry 4.0 for achieving higher agility and productivity of modern production. The development of a system for detecting the location and orientation of production modules is crucial for the development of adaptive digital twins, which are capable of adapting to changes in the layout of modular production lines. As part of the master's thesis we developed a system for detecting the location and orientation of production modules in the Laboratory for Handling, Assembly, and Pneumatics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana. The system was designed based on the identification of production modules using QR codes. We compared different types of QR codes and programming libraries for the detection and decoding of selected codes. Based on experiments, we selected the most appropriate QR code type and programming library for QR code detection. A program was developed to determine the location and orientation of production modules based on detected QR codes. The obtained data was automatically stored in a cloud database, which can be accesed by the digital twin. The accuracy of the system was estimated by comparing the calculated distances between the vertices of production modules and a reference point with the measured distances in the laboratory. Compared to other wireless methods, we achieved higher location detection accuracy.
