In the thesis, we graphically designed and printed a self-written poem collection. In the theoretical part, we addressed the history of books, the importance of book design, the question of graphic design quality, environmentally friendlier book design, a chapter on poetry, the interdisciplinary approach as a method in the creative process, and the design process. In the experimental part, we selected the standard B6 format for the poem collection and designed it using the Indesign program. We enriched it with original photographs taken with a Sony Xperia XA smartphone camera. These photographs were converted from RGB to CMYK color space using Adobe Photoshop. We followed the guidelines for environmentally friendlier book design. We selected a printing house that offers digital printing for small book runs. Together with the printer, we determined the appropriate paper for the softcover binding and the inner pages based on the book’s content. A test print was created for us. We analyzed a well-designed poem collection of our choice and reviewed the test print. These analyses helped us refine the design of the cover and inner pages, and we changed the paper used for the interior. A second test print was made, which met our satisfaction. The agreed number of copies of the poem collection was then printed. In the results and discussion, we included an analysis of the first test print and the final product. These analyses describe the product from the design perspective and from the perspective of adhering to the guidelines for environmentally friendlier book design.
