Abstract
V diplomski nalogi analiziramo in primerjamo izmerjene in modelirane podatke o morskih tokovih na izlivu reke Pad. Izmerjeni podatki so bili pridobljeni z akustičnim dopplerskim merilnikom hitrosti tokov (AWAC), modelirani podatki pa izhajajo iz numeriˇcnega modela CMEMS. Cilj naloge je oceniti natančnost modela in ugotoviti, kako dobro napoveduje morske tokove v plitvem obalnem območju. Podatke smo pripravili z interpolacijo in povprečenjem, da smo omogočili smiselno primerjavo med obema viroma. Za ovrednotenje natančnosti modelskih podatkov so bile uporabljene različne statistične metode, vključno s korenom povprečne kvadratne napake (RMSE), povprečno absolutno napako (MAE), Evklidsko razdaljo in kosinusno podobnostjo. Poleg tega smo z linearnim regresijskim modelom in Lasso regresijskim modelom preizkusili, ali lahko izboljšamo modelske podatke. Analiza rezultatov je pokazala, da numerični model CMEMS slabo napoveduje izmerjene vrednosti morskih tokov na obravnavanem območju. Največji vpliv na gibanje tokov v meritveni točki ima veter, medtem ko ima rečni dotok iz reke Pad manjši vpliv.

Title:Analysis and Comparison of Measured and Modeled Currents at the Mouth of the Po River
Abstract:
This thesis examines and compares measured and modeled ocean current data at the Po River estuary. The measured data were collected using an Acoustic Doppler Current Meter (AWAC), while the modeled data were sourced from the CMEMS numerical model. The primary goal is to evaluate the model’s accuracy and assess its effectiveness in predicting ocean currents in a shallow coastal environment. To ensure comparison between the datasets, the data were processed through interpolation and averaging. Several statistical methods were used in the analysis, including Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Euclidean distance, and cosine similarity. Additionally, we trained a linear regression model and a Lasso regression model to determine whether they could improve CMEMS model predictions. The results reveal that the CMEMS numerical model does not accurately replicate the observed ocean currents in the study area. Wind has the biggest role in influencing currents at the measurement site, while the impact of river discharge is comparatively less.
