Abstract
Upodabljanje besedila v 3D aplikacijah in igrah zahteva ravnovesje med vizualno kakovostjo in zmogljivostjo. V diplomski nalogi preučimo tri tehnike upodabljanja besedila: upodabljanje iz rastrske slike, upodabljanje s pomočjo predznačene funkcije razdalje (SDF) in upodabljanje z večkanalnimi predznačenimi funkcijami razdalje (MSDF). Analiza pokaže, da predznačene funkcije razdalje omogočajo skalabilno upodabljanje besedila, ki ohranja visoko kakovost ne glede na povečavo. Nadalje ugotovimo, da uporaba večkanalnih predznačenih funkcij razdalje omogoča ohranjanje ostrih kotov in izboljšano vizualno natančnost v primerjavi z enokanalnimi metodami. Na koncu primerjamo različne pristope in ugotovimo, da izbira optimalne tehnike upodabljanja besedila močno zavisi od specifičnih zahtev in omejitev posamezne aplikacije.

Title:Rendering text with multi-channel signed distance fields
Abstract:
Rendering text in 3D applications and games requires a balance between visual quality and performance. This thesis explores three text rendering techniques: bitmap-based rendering, single-channel signed distance fields (SDF), and multi-channel signed distance fields (MSDF). Our analysis shows that signed distance fields enable scalable text rendering while preserving high visual quality across different sizes. Furthermore, we find that multi-channel signed distance fields improve accuracy by maintaining sharp corners compared to single-channel methods. Finally, we compare these approaches and conclude that the choice of the optimal text rendering technique depends heavily on the specific requirements and constraints of the application.
