Abstract
Video game special effects are usually created using sprites or simplistic triangle meshes with added textures, which is a good compromise between performance and quality. This diploma thesis focuses on implementing a real-time 3D volumetric special effect of an explosion to significantly enhance realism in video games. With the development of new technologies like WebGPU for web environments, it sets a new standard for high-performance computer graphics. The contribution of this thesis is demonstrating that we can effectively support complex physical simulations in real time, opening up new possibilities for the development of more interactive and immersive applications and video games. This advancement shows a possible future of volumetric special effects.

Title:Volumetrični posebni učinki v igrah
Abstract:
Posebni učinki v videoigrah so običajno ustvarjeni z uporabo panojev (angl. sprites) ali z enostavnimi trikotniškimi modeli z dodanimi teksturami, kar je dober kompromis med zmogljivostjo in kakovostjo. Ta diplomska naloga se osredotoča na implementacijo realnočasovnega volumetričnega posebnega učinka eksplozije za bistveno izboljšanje realizma v video igrah. Z razvojem novih tehnologij, kot je WebGPU za spletna okolja, se postavlja nov standard za visoko zmogljivo računalniško grafiko. Prispevek te naloge je prikaz, da lahko učinkovito izvajamo volumetrične posebne učinke v realnem času, kar odpira nove možnosti za razvoj bolj interaktivnih in poglobljenih aplikacij in iger. Ta napredek prikazuje možno prihodnost volumetričnih posebnih učinkov.
