Abstract
Diplomsko delo obravnava implementacijo STEAM izobraževanja (znanost, tehnologija, inženirstvo, umetnost in matematika) v predšolskem okolju. Cilj raziskave je bil preučiti mnenja, stališča in izkušnje vzgojiteljev glede vključevanja STEAM pristopa v vzgojno-izobraževalne aktivnosti ter prepoznati izzive in priložnosti pri njegovi implementaciji. V teoretičnem delu je predstavljen koncept STEAM-a, ki združuje tehnične in ustvarjalne vidike za spodbujanje ključnih kompetenc, kot so ustvarjalnost, kritično mišljenje in sodelovanje. Obravnavane so razvojne značilnosti otrok, pomen prilagoditve STEAM dejavnosti predšolskemu obdobju in izzivi, kot so pomanjkanje virov, usposobljenosti in kurikularne podpore. Delo vključuje tudi primere dobrih praks iz Slovenije in tujine. Empirični del temelji na kvantitativni in kvalitativni metodologiji. Anketo je izpolnilo 87 vzgojiteljev, poglobljeni intervjuji s tremi vzgojitelji pa so omogočili bolj podroben vpogled. Rezultati kažejo, da vzgojitelji prepoznavajo STEAM kot potencial za spodbujanje otroške ustvarjalnosti in kritičnega mišljenja, a se soočajo z izzivi, kot so pomanjkanje virov in ustreznega usposabljanja. Zaključek dela vključuje predloge za izboljšanje prakse: razvoj prilagojenih kurikulumov, sistematično usposabljanje vzgojiteljev ter zagotavljanje materialne in sistemske podpore. Uspešna implementacija STEAM-a lahko bistveno prispeva k celostnemu razvoju otrok in njihovi pripravi na prihodnje izzive.

Title:Preschool teachers' views, opinions, and experiences with STEAM education
Abstract:
This diploma thesis explores the implementation of STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) in the preschool setting. The aim of the research was to examine the views, attitudes, and experiences of educators regarding the integration of the STEAM approach into educational activities, as well as to identify the challenges and opportunities associated with its implementation. The theoretical section introduces the concept of STEAM, which combines technical and creative elements to foster key skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. It also discusses the developmental characteristics of children, the importance of adapting STEAM activities to the preschool age, and challenges such as the lack of resources, training, and curriculum support. The diploma thesis includes examples of best practices from both Slovenia and abroad. The empirical part employs both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. A survey was completed by 87 educators, and in-depth interviews with three of them provided additional insights. The results show that educators recognize the potential of STEAM in nurturing children's creativity and critical thinking, but they also face challenges, including a lack of resources and adequate training. The conclusion of the diploma thesis offers recommendations for improving practice, such as developing tailored curricula, providing systematic training for educators, and ensuring the availability of material and structural support. Effective implementation of STEAM can significantly contribute to the holistic development of children and better prepare them for future challenges.
