Abstract
Ker se embalaža po uporabi izdelka ponavadi zavrže, je njen negativen vpliv na okolje velik, zato se v zadnjih letih raziskave vse bolj usmerjajo v iskanje alternativnih trajnostnih materialov za izdelavo embalaže. Namen našega magistrskega dela je bil raziskati primernost valovitega kartona, izdelanega iz paradižnikovih vlaken, za uporabo v embalažne namene. V eksperimentalnem delu smo raziskali osnovne, površinske in mehanske lastnosti valovitega kartona iz paradižnikovih vlaken pri standardnih pogojih, po izpostavljenosti višji vlagi in po izpostavljenosti nizkim temperaturam in jih primerjali z lastnostmi komercialnega valovitega kartona. Poleg tega smo pri različnih klimatskih pogojih preverili tudi kakovost odtisa in izdelave radiofrekvenčne identifikacijske oznake (RFID) na valovitem kartonu. Rezultati raziskave kažejo, da je prišlo po izpostavljenosti kartona višji vlagi do veliko večje razlike pri vrednostih meritev kot po izpostavljenosti nizki temperaturi. Razlika pa je bila izrazitejša pri meritvah mehanskih lastnostih, kar kaže, da se je zmanjšala trdnost in togost kartona. Vpliv je bil primerljiv pri obeh valovitih kartonih. Na kakovost odtisa sta imeli višja vlaga in nizka temperatura manjši vpliv. Na berljivost RFID oznak je imela večji vpliv izpostavljenost višji vlagi. Rezultati so pokazali, da je embalaža iz valovitega kartona iz paradižnikovih vlaken primerna za skladiščenje pri različnih klimatskih pogojih tam, kjer boljše mehanske lastnosti niso ključne, prav tako pa je kakovost tiska primerna za transportno embalažo.

Title:Ecological corrugated cardboard for packaging made from tomato fibers
Abstract:
Since packaging is usually discarded after use, its negative environmental impact is significant. That is why, in recent years research has increasingly focused on finding alternative sustainable packaging materials. This master's thesis aimed to investigate the suitability of corrugated cardboard made from tomato fibres for packaging purposes. In the experimental part, we examined the basic, surface, and mechanical properties of corrugated cardboard made from tomato fibres under standard conditions, after exposure to high humidity, and after exposure to low temperatures and compared them with the properties of commercial corrugated cardboard. Additionally we assesed the print quality and readability of radio frequency identification; shorter RFID tags on corrugated cardboard. The results indicate that there was a much greater difference after exposure to higher humidity than after exposure to low temperature, with the most evident differences observed in measurements of mechanical properties, indicating a decrease in the strength and stiffness of the cardboard. The impact was comparable for both types of corrugated cardboard. Higher humidity and lower temperature had a smaller impact on print quality. Exposure to high humidity had a greater impact on the readability of RFID tags. The results suggest that the tomato fibre corrugated cardboard packaging is suitable for storage in different climate conditions, where better mechanical properties are not very important, and that its print quality is adequate for transport packaging.
