Abstract
S svojim magistrskim delom želim ugotoviti, v kolikšni meri strokovni delavci in ljudje s težavami v duševnem zdravju poznajo pojem stigmatizacije oziroma samostigmatizacije in kaj si pod tem pojmom predstavljajo.

Title:
Experiences of stigmatization processes due to mental health problems
Abstract:
Stigma is a word that cuts into a person. Especially in the people who experience it and remain alone in its grip. It does not select and does not consider social status, economic status, social situation, religion, ethnicity and gender. It is among us present every day and yet we do not know how to recognise it, or we ignore it. Until it creeps up on us and/or our loved ones. Then we face it, or we run from it, but we have nowhere to run to, because it will always catch up with us. It is present wherever there is a deviation from the accepted and universally recognised norms of society. It is also omnipresent in people with mental health problems. These people often remain alone with their problems, identify with the diagnosis and stigmatise themselves. Nevertheless, the stigmatisation and self-stigmatisation of people with mental health problems is still not talked about much in society and anyone can develop a mental health problem and be stigmatised. The result is a new situation for them that can radically change their lives. Mental health services endeavour to make life easier for people with mental health problems and their loved ones, to integrate them into society and to dispel the myths and stereotypes that circulate in public about people with mental health problems and bring them closer to society, which usually rejects them. In my master's thesis, I want to find out to what extent professionals and people with mental health problems are familiar with the concept of stigmatisation or self-stigmatisation and what they understand by this term. I want to find out what respondents consider to be the main causes of stigmatisation whether users stigmatise themselves and in what ways professionals can contribute to reducing stigmatisation and self-stigmatisation of people with mental health problems.
