Abstract
Pričujoči prispevek je del širšega razmišljanja, ki preizprašuje vlogo oz. sposobnost uporabe telesa v komunikaciji v najosnovnejši funkciji vizualnega komuniciranja, pismenosti. Pojava opismenjevanja v zgodnji otroški dobi se loteva s stališča vizualnih komunikacij oziroma natančneje tipografije in kaligrafije. Konkretni prispevek je prvi del širše celote, ki v središče postavlja zgodovinske primere opismenjevanja na slovensko govorečih območjih prek vsebinske analize obstoječih didaktičnih gradiv različnih obdobij in sekundarnih virov s področja šolanja, na katerem so se otroci učili pisati. Opismenjevanje v 19. stoletju je temeljilo na kaligrafskih pisavah, navdihnjenih z nemškimi, italijanskimi ali češkimi vzorci. Raziskovanje metod, gradiv in pedagoških pristopov je bilo intenzivno in rezultate najdemo tudi v periodičnem strokovnem tisku. Šolske učbenike, ki so pogosto vključevali napotke za učitelje, so izdajali založniki ali tiskarji, ki jih je za to certificirala država. Najpozneje leta 1926 je bila predpisana pokončna rokopisna pisava, pozneje pa se je uveljavil model »šolske pisave«. Zvezki za učence so bili razdeljeni po stopnjah znanja in so se uporabljali vzporedno z berili, ki so ravno tako vsebovala modele črk za učenje branja in pisanja. Kljub vseprisotnosti rokopisne pisave skozi zgodovino se pedagoška stroka ni veliko ukvarjala z vizualnimi vidiki, strokovnjaki s področja likovne, vizualne, tipografske ali kaligrafske stroke pa so bili le izjemoma vključeni v procese razvoja metod opismenjevanja.

Title:Visual aspects of literacy in an analogue context : a review of selected materials in the field of literacy in the past
Abstract:
The present paper is part of a broader reflection on the role or ability of using the body in communication in the most basic function of visual communication, literacy. It addresses the phenomenon of early childhood literacy from the perspective of visual communication, or more specifically, typography and calligraphy. This particular paper is the first part of a broader whole that focuses on historical examples of literacy in Slovene-speaking areas through a content analysis of existing didactic materials from different periods and secondary sources from the field of education where children learned to write. Literacy in the 19th century was based on calligraphic writing inspired by German, Italian or Czech models. The research into methods, materials and pedagogical approaches was intensive and the results are also found in the periodical trade press. School textbooks, which often included instructions for teachers, were published by publishers or printers certified by the state. Vertical handwriting was prescribed no later than 1926, and later the “school writing” model became established. Student notebooks were divided by level and used alongside the reading books, which also contained model letters for teaching reading and writing. Despite the ubiquity of handwriting throughout history, the teaching profession has not been much concerned with the visual aspects, and experts in the fields of art, design, typography or calligraphy have only exceptionally been involved in the development of literacy methods.
