The article discusses the problem of choosing the headword form of adjectives in dictionaries, particularly the distribution of affixes -en and - ni in relation to their meaning and (morpho)syntactic behaviour. First, the topic is discussed from the theoretical point of view where the problem of the transfer from theory to lexicographic practice is underlined. For this purpose, current practices in the existing dictionaries and in the concept of the New Diction- ary of Standard Slovene (NSSKJ) were analysed. The main part of the article describes adjectival headword forms as proposed in the concept of the Dictionary of Modern Slovene (SSSJ) where best practices in Slovene lexicographic tradition were used, corpus data was taken into account and the specifics of the web medium and user-friendliness were observed.
