This contribution examines Slovene normative lexicography in the second half of the 20th century, emphasising the absence of a specialised dictionary that would complement orthographic rules and the lack of consensus regarding certain grammatical issues, which has led to different solutions in the Slovene language reference works of the era. The second section of the paper presents the factors influencing the work on the emerging Dictionary of Normative Issues, as well as the on-going revision of the orthographic rules.
