In my master thesis entitled "Slovenia and its role in European railway freight corridors", I focused on the current issue in logistics, namely rail freight transport. Increasingly, rail-related projects are being mentioned in the media to make rail transport more competitive with road transport. Unfortunately, in Slovenia over the last few decades we have sidelined rail and given priority to road transport. The result of this approach is the uncompetitiveness of Slovenian rail transport compared to the road transport industry and a poor public opinion of rail itself. Slovenia faces a major challenge, as a geographically important country within the single railway network in Europe, we are obliged to ensure and follow the European Union guidelines for rail transport. These factors mean that we are currently at a turning point in terms of whether we will create the right conditions for rail transport or whether we will be bypassed by traffic flows because of the poor state of rail transport in Slovenia. We are therefore part of a present that will write the history of rail transport, not only in Slovenia but in Europe itself, and we are part of a future in which we can add something to ensure railway transport becomes to main mode of transport for Slovenia and furthermore also in Europe.
