Abstract
Oblikovalske strategije sledijo tezi in dajejo prednost javnim kvalitetnim urbanim zelenim površinam ter poudarjajo njihov pomen pri spodbujanju bolj zdravih in odpornejših urbanih skupnosti.

Title:
An island of nature in an urban world: urban design of park for mental health in Shibuya, Tokyo
Abstract:
The master thesis entitled »AN ISLAND OF NATURE IN THE URBAN WORLD: THE IMPORTANCE OF PARKS FOR MENTAL HEALTH - A STUDY IN SHIBUYA, TOKYO« focuses on the role of urban green spaces in promoting mental health in densely populated cities, with a special emphasis on the practice of Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing. The research is based on a case study in Tokyo. The wetland in question is located in Shibuya and illustrates the challenges and opportunities associated with the integration of nature into the urban environment. The study combines a survey of 100 students, a thorough literature review and a design proposal for the site that embodies the principles of Shinrin-yoku. The survey assesses the state of mental well-being among the participants, and the design proposal shows specific interventions aimed at improving the site’s potential. The findings show a significant correlation between access to well-designed urban green spaces and improved mental health outcomes, highlighting the need for urban design strategies that incorporate these spaces as essential infrastructure for public health. The study contributes to the discourse on sustainable and integrated urban development that prioritises mental well-being. The design strategies follow this thesis and prioritise public quality urban green spaces and emphasise their importance in promoting healthier and more resilient urban communities.
