This thesis focuses on the workload of professional drivers. The first part defines professional drivers and their characteristics, as well as the characteristics of the work they do. The focus is on the working conditions of professional drivers, their safety at work and the need for training.
The second part identifies the pressures faced by drivers and their consequences. This is followed by a presentation of road safety for professional drivers, which includes the factors influencing the road safety in lorry transport and the characteristics of accidents involving lorries.
In the last part of the thesis, a study on the characteristics of the work of professional drivers and the safety of road freight transport is presented. Finally, approaches to improve working conditions and road safety in lorry transport are presented.
