Abstract
S pomočjo strokovne literature sem predstavila geografske značilnosti porečja Labe in podrobneje prikazala elemente poplavnih dogodkov Labe leta 2002 in leta 2013.

Title:Analysis and comparison of 2002 and 2013 Laba floods
Abstract:
The thesis is focused on two most significant flood events of the Elbe river in the recent decades. The analysis and comparison of the floods was mainly cabinet work, analysis and comparison of various sources from foreign and, to a lesser extent, Slovenian publications, as well as from sources on the World Wide Web. With the help of professional literature, I presented the geographical features of the Elbe basin and showed in more detail the elements of the Elbe flood events in 2002 and 2013. I mainly focused on meteorological and hydrological indicators, such as the amount of precipitation, flows of the Elbe and its tributaries, water levels. The floods of 2002 were triggered by previous short-term but intense rainfall, while large antecedent wetness was essential the floods of 2013. So the time course in 2013 floods was also longer and therefore easier to control. The areas that were most affected during the flood events differed, as in the 2002 floods, the upper reaches of the Elbe and the area of the Vltava tributary in the Czech Republic were more affected, while in 2013, the area of the middle course of the Elbe with the Mulde tributary was the most affected. The analysis of flood events contributes to a better understanding of floods, but at the same time it can significantly contribute to the improvement of flood safety and help in the preparation of spatial planning.
