Abstract
Ta magistrska naloga preučuje fitokemično sestavo in bioaktivne lastnosti vodnega ekstrakta rdečega zmajevega sadeža (Hylocereus costaricensis) ter poudarja njegov antioksidativni, protivnetni in antihiperglikemični potencial.

Title:Phytochemical characterization of dragon fruit (Hylocereus costaricensis) aqueous extract and its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-hyperglycaemic properties
Abstract:
This thesis examines the phytochemical composition and bioactive properties of red dragon fruit (Hylocereus costaricensis) aqueous extract, highlighting its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-hyperglycemic potential. The extract, rich in phenols, flavonoids, and vitamin C, demonstrated strong antioxidant activity, reduced oxidative stress, and exhibited dose-dependent anti-inflammatory and blood sugar-regulating effects in vitro and in vivo. These findings support the fruit's potential as a functional food for preventing chronic diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular conditions, with further research needed for therapeutic validation.

Keywords:red dragon fruit aqueous extract, phenolic compounds, antioxidant activity, anti-hyperglycaemic activity, anti-inflammatory activity
