Abstract

Abstract:
Although his novels are rooted in a considerably different social, economic, and political environment, Steinbeck left a significant mark on the Slovene cultural sphere. The writer’s significance in Slovenia is evident not only in a vivid critical response accompanying his works and in the sheer number of Slovene translations, but also in his influence on Slovene writers. The paper deals primarily with Steinbeck’s impact on the literary work of Ciril Kosmač, examining the similarities between his novel Tortilla Flat (1935) and the novels collected in Kosmač’s book Sreča in kruh (1946).
