The master's thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, Conceptual analysis of the subconscious mind through different forms of media, I explore and understand the subconscious, how it works, and how it influences our behavior and emotions. The theoretical work aims to create a critical framework for understanding the depictions of the subconscious in short films and to use this to analyze a selection of films that have addressed this topic, which will help me to prepare the practical part of my master’s thesis. The theoretical part analyzes research on the subconscious and its representation in different forms of media, including film, photography, new media, and painting. In the practical part, the short feature film Phantoms of the Mind, I visually present the concepts explored in the theoretical part of the thesis. The short film addresses the question of how theoretical concepts can be effectively communicated through the medium of moving images. The film follows a young artist creating her most important work of art, as she enters her subconscious mind. The practical work aims to show the subconscious mind, the relationship between the visible and the invisible and blurred boundaries between real life and imagination.
