In the travelogue novel, the most common literary genre of the contemporary travelogue, fictional travel is narrated as the event, the leading motif, or the catalyst of the novelistic narrative. In the most recent Slovene travelogue novels (E. Flisar, Potovanje predaleč, Andrej Morovič, Vladarka, Blaž Ogorevc, Tropska melanholija, Polona Glavan, Noč v Evropi, Sonja Porle, Črni angel, varuh moj) despite various narrative motivations, the fictional travel still represents a critical insight into society and/or one's own identity. The travelogue novel is characterized by genre syncretism and many autobiographic, lyrical, essayistic, and symbolic elemetns.
