On our family farm, we are involved in the preparation and sale of firewood. The entire
process is lengthy and requires a lot of manual labor. Therefore, we decided to optimize the
process of sawing wood assortments to a suitable length for burning. We conducted a market
analysis and developed a design specification based on this analysis. In the thesis, we
reviewed the literature on the calculation of cutting forces during cutting. We created a
morphological matrix and developed three concepts. We evaluated the concepts and created
a 3D model for the best one. We calculated the cutting force based on the Kienzle equation
for wood. We selected hydraulic components based on the required operating conditions.
Using the finite element method, we analyzed the critical part and weld of the cutter. Finally,
we conducted a detailed cost analysis.
