Abstract

Title:Analysis of the dynamics of the Ljubljana cycling network
Abstract:
Climate change, which already dictates our everyday lives, has exposed that only sustainable development and accompanying changes in our habits could ensure our persistent survival. The people-oriented smart city represents a sensible and appropriate path of progress with which the development of modern urban environments coaligns. Bikesharing represents a public model of sustainable people transportation, where there is no need for private ownership or user maintenance of the vehicle fleet while concurrently encouraging a mode of transportation without emissions. Efficient performance of bikesharing is connected to continuous surveillance of flows within the system, which enables adaptation and planning for the future. The BicikeLJ system in Ljubljana has been in operation since May of 2011. For the analysis of dynamics within the Ljubljana bike network the data for 2018 was acquired in its raw form. In the whole of 2018 there were 1.093.363 recorded activities of bikesharing where it was discovered that entries in the system follow daily and seasonal cycles and high usage rates in the areas of predominant educational activity. We can justly expect that bike traffic will steadily increase because of climate change, thus it would be reasonable to take that prediction into account in future development of city infrastructure.
