The master's thesis presents an attempt to design a methodology for analysing an elderly-friendly environment, i.e., an environment adapted to the needs of older individuals. Improving the quality of life for older adults in various areas of life is the main mission of the global program Age-Friendly Cities and Communities. The proposed methodology combines different working methods based on bottom-up and top-down approaches. The master's thesis places significant emphasis on fieldwork. To measure the age-friendly physical and social environment, we developed 35 indicators, which were divided into four domains: outdoor spaces and buildings, transportation, housing, and social networks. Each indicator has its own weight, calculated based on the opinions of experts in the fields of aging, social work, and spatial planning. We conducted the analysis of the physical and social environment in the Municipality of Komenda. The results of the analysis showed that the environment in the municipality is largely elderly-friendly, as confirmed by older residents. However, deviations are visible between different areas. The results of the analysis show the current state in the field of elderly-friendly environments, which can serve as a starting point for measuring progress in achieving the goals of the Slovene network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities program. Based on the results, we also formulated guidelines and recommendations for adapting the environment to the needs of older citizens, which can assist the municipality in planning further spatial and social development.
