In the Triglav National Park there is a special type of meadows, the hummocky meadows. Due to human activities, hummocky meadows have not only a nature conservation value, but also a cultural value. For this reason, within the Rural Development Programme (RDP), a systematic measure for the conservation of hummocky meadows has been introduced since 2004. The official data layer of hummocky meadows is incomplete and partially deficient, although it was reviewed and updated in the field in 2021. The aim of this paper is to present the development of a quantitative procedure for the identification of hummocky meadows in Triglav National Park. The limitation of the method is that it is not directly applicable for the detection of hummocky meadows without subsequent field survey or digital inspection. With this method we have shown the possibility to efficiently build on the existing official data layer of hummocky meadows.
