The development of green ports in Europe represents a crucial component of efforts to achieve sustainable development and reduce negative environmental impacts. This thesis focuses on the entire process of developing green ports in Europe. The goal of the research is to examine all solutions and projects in which the EU participates, to ensure implementation by EU members. The European Green Deal provides the fundamental framework for achieving European environmental goals, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to renewable energy sources.
Special emphasis is placed on the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), which is essential for promoting international transport, logistics, and trade within Europe. The study further focuses on analysing the key aspects of the development of the green port of Rotterdam. In conclusion, a detailed analysis of the Slovenian port of Luka Koper is provided, highlighting the innovations being implemented in Slovenia.
The final part of the thesis, an analysis of the development of smart and green ports in the North Adriatic is conducted, examining initiatives and projects aimed at improving energy efficiency, introducing renewable energy sources, and digitalizing processes to enhance operational efficiency.
