Reactions between different cobalt(II) salts and 4-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine as a ligand were performed. Reactions were carried out in different metal to ligand stoichiometric ratios, using different solvents (methanol, acetonitrile and water). The following cobalt(II) salts were used: cobalt(II) nitrate hexahydrate, cobalt(II) chloride hexahydrate, cobalt(II) sulfate heptahydrate, and cobalt(II) bromide hydrate.
Successfully synthesized products were characterized by CHN elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray powder diffraction. In case of monocrystals, crystal structure determination from single-crystal diffraction data was also performed.
