The dissertation deals with development of Korean nationalism under President Park Chung Hee’s government. The attention is placed on Park’s political, economic, social programs and measures and the role of Japanese and anti-Japanese national sentiment. I demonstrated both positive and negative aspects of his government and the Korean nation’s dissatisfaction and suffering. I used also the theory of nationalism, described history of occupied Korea and Park’s life and his government. The dissertation is composed of 3 parts. The first part contains the definition of nationalism which I inserted in Korean context. The second consists of description of Korean life in Japanese colonial era and Park’s life. The last part consists of 4 segments: Saemaul Undong, deal with Japan, development of heavy and chemical industry and Yushin regime. Here is manifested Park’s way of governing, thinking and his vision of a strong and rich nation. Analyzing these segments, I came to know better how Korean nationalism was developed and what kind of influence Japan had on it.
